When you’re new to 3D printing, selecting a machine can seem overwhelming. However, XYZ Printing is trying to change that with their da Vinci Mini Wireless 3D Printer.
It was specifically designed for classrooms, hobbyists, and people new to 3D printing, and as such, it’s effortless to use, fairly inexpensive and creates high-quality prints.
Unfortunately, not everyone who has tried this printer speaks of a great experience. Some users disliked that you can only use XYZ brand PLA filament, that it doesn’t come with a heated bed, and that it can go very slowly when producing a higher resolution print.
Nonetheless, before you make your final decision, let’s take a closer look at the XYZ Printing da Vinci Mini Wireless 3D Printer.

You won’t have to worry about messing with a bunch of buttons on this 3D printer. There is simply one button to push when it’s time to print.
Even if you’re new to this craft, the da Vinci 3D Printer makes it very simple to use. Once you have your file ready, all that’s left is the press of a button.
Don’t worry about buying extra software or figuring out which is compatible with your printer. XYZ Printing has done all the work for you.
The printer comes with XYZware and XYZmaker for creating an image and splicing it, so you will have everything necessary right out of the box.
This printer has a 5.9 x 5.9 x 5.9 inches print bed, which is fairly large for a printer that is so compact.
However, the print bed is not heated; XYZ recommends that you apply a little bit of white glue to the bed before you begin a larger print, so that it has something to stick to.
Otherwise, you may have issues with the filament sticking to the bed and improperly forming your creation.
Normally, you’d need to ensure everything was precisely in alignment through adjusting multiple parts on the printer, but this XYZ device includes an auto-calibration feature.
So, especially if you’re a novice, you don’t have to mess with the calibrating or leveling of the print bed at all! You’ll auto-calibrate directly from the software on your computer.
The da Vinci Mini Wireless 3D Printer only works with XYZ’s own brand of PLA filament, which is made of cornstarch and, therefore, completely non-toxic and environmentally-friendly.
The filament also includes a chip inside it, so when you are close to running out, it will let you know!
This printer comes with a free roll of the filament, so you can begin your project right out of the box.
This XYZ Printing 3D Printer is an open-air design, meaning that it lacks an enclosure around the printing area.
Not only can you watch the entire process, but you’ll be able to easily grab your final product once it’s finished printing.
The da Vinci also comes in two different colors on Amazon: black or orange. Either version is a sleek design with a spool to hold all your filament tidily on the side of the printer.
Another major point about this printer is its wireless capabilities. While this makes home printing convenient, it makes classroom and office printing a breeze.
You can connect your da Vinci Mini Wireless to your WiFi network and use your smart device or computer to easily use software, prepare files, and of course, print.
This means you won’t have to deal with an extra wire, and you can print without having to move too far. When multiple users have access to this printer, it makes it easy to transfer files instead of having to connect to each computer with a wire, saving you time, and giving you a world of convenience.
XYZ Printing da Vinci Mini Wireless 3D Printer Review
Many users noted how compact this printer is. At 14.2 x 15.4 x 13.2 inches, it is equal in size to a small microwave, so it will fit nearly anywhere.
Especially if you live in a small apartment or plan to take this to the classroom, you won’t have to worry about the da Vinci Wireless 3D printer requiring too much space or cluttering your home.
With more options for where you place your printer, there won’t be much concern about your surfaces buckling under pressure thanks to its lighter weight.
Most users of this printer loved how inexpensive it was compared to others on the market. 3D printers can be thousands of dollars, but since this one is rather compact, it’s on the cheaper side.
On Amazon, it’s available for a couple hundred dollars – an amazing deal for a machine of this quality. This is great for those on a budget, or for those just starting out since you won’t have to shell out a ton of cash right off the bat.
You’ll have filament included too, saving you even more money before you even start. You’ll also find a leveling tool, scraper, and cleaning tools all inside the box for your convenience.
XYZprinting has also included a one-year limited warranty with your purchase, protecting customers against any manufacturing errors. If you find something wrong with your machine, you’ll need to call customer service where they promise to replace or repair your machine.
You’ll have a lot less to worry about with this printer, for a much more affordable price.
On the Quiet Side
This printer is unusually quiet, especially when compared to others of its kind. This is definitely a nice surprise, as most open-air models are far louder than enclosed ones, thanks to their lack of a barrier between you and the printing area.
Whether you’re printing late at night or in a school where loud disturbances aren’t appreciated, you can be sure this 3D printer will be on the quieter side.
Those with sensitive ears will enjoy not having to listen to the mechanics of your printer at work. So feel free to craft to some music, or have an uninterrupted conversation – your printer won’t disturb.
Great Print Quality
The price and size of a 3D printer typically reflect the quality of its prints. That’s not the case with this da Vinci printer.
Despite being so compact and more inexpensive than larger models, it provides high-quality prints that are smooth and clean. Furthermore, it’s exceptionally good at creating sharp points and great rounded objects.
With this printer, you won’t have to compromise quality for affordability, and you can begin crafting like a pro.
No Heated Bed
The biggest complaint about this 3D Printer is that the print bed is not heated. As a result, it’s more difficult to make the filament stick to the bed once the printing begins.
If the filament doesn’t stick, your printer either halts all progress or the final result comes out looking much different than expected. You’ll need to use painter’s tape or some glue on the bed to help dodge this issue.
Only Uses One Kind of Filament
Because you can only use PLA filament and only XYZ’s brand, this printer is very limited in what it can do.
You must buy from XYZ or a retailer that carries their brand of filament, so you can’t shop around for the best price or use a cheaper filament.
With a roll costing around $28, that is another expense you’ll have to factor into the price, since you can’t use the printer without filament, and you’re going to run out eventually.
While the printer works very quickly on projects that have a low resolution, it is very slow when dealing with a high resolution.
The machine’s pace downgrades significantly when printing something at the Good or Excellent setting. Some users even waited 12 hours for a print on the Excellent setting!
So, when going for the higher resolution, expect it to take all day.
Here’s a video showing what the da Vinci Mini looks like out of the box and setup.
After going over all the positives and negatives, we recommend the XYZ Printing da Vinci Mini Wireless 3D Printer. It comes with many great features, but if you expect to use different kinds of filaments or different brands, this is not the printer for you.
While this will be a great first 3D printer, anyone beyond a novice will soon get bored with it. Nonetheless, if you don’t mind the limitations this printer offers, give it a try!
