How Does It Work?
Since the Qidi Tech X-Max 3D Printer arrives fully assembled, there’s little to no set-up required to begin printing.
Once everything is unboxed, you will start by assembling the spool holder. While the printer, indeed, arrives fully assembled, not all the accompanying parts do. You will only need to place your chosen filament on the spool and then put a gasket on either side.
After that, you can plug in the printer, flip the “On” switch, push the “On” button, and watch it light up. Next, place the access panels on each side of the printer. They are held on by magnets, so it’s a simple job.
Pull the spool support rods from the top of the printer and twist them into place. Then, place the filament spool holder on the support rods. You can then use the screen, located at the front of the printer, to check that the bed is level. It will do the job for you and explain if further action is necessary.
Now it’s time to get ready for printing. Place the end of the filament into the extruder and begin to heat up the printer. At this point, you can pick a design to print – either one from a website or one that you’ve designed and spliced yourself.
After that’s done, you can send it to the printer. It will beep once it is finished.

Features
Touchscreen
One of the best features on this Qidi Tech X-Max 3D Printer is the touchscreen. It is a five-inch color screen, making it very easy to view the icons and read any alerts or instructions from the machine.
The touchscreen also makes this printer simplistic to use, as it can walk you through most of the steps and ensure you know which icon must be pushed to continue.
Heat Bed
This 3D printer also comes with a reversible heat bed. As such, you can print on either side of it. There is no “right” side.
The bed accommodates objects up to 11. 8 x 9.8 x 11.8 inches and is also removable, which makes it simple to retrieve your finished prints.
There’s no need to try and get inside the printer for your item; you can wait for the bed to cool and take the whole thing out, giving you more room to work.
Additionally, the bed is bendable, allowing you to nearly peel the bed off the bottom of the object you’ve printed. Doesn’t get much easier than that!
Filaments
This Qidi Tech allows you to use a wide variety of filament types. Available to you are PLA, ABS, TPU, PETG, nylon, carbon fiber, and PC filament.
While some 3D printers only let you use one or two filament varieties (usually PLA and ABS), that is not the case here. You are only limited by your imagination and budget when it comes to this machine.
Extruders
Two types of extruders can be used on this 3D printer. The general extruder can print using PLA, ABS, and TPU, and the advanced material extruder can print nylon, carbon fiber, and PC.
You may have to contact the company to receive this second extruder, but it’s definitely worth the effort; it’s completely free to send and expands the capabilities of what the X-Max can do.
Additionally, the extruder can go up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit, ensuring it can heat up and extrude whatever filament you’ve chosen. However, the printer only has one port for a single extruder, so you can only print in one color at a time.
Qidi Tech X-Max 3D Printer Review
The Positives
Easy to Set Up
Whether or not you’re new to 3D printing, the Qidi Tech X-Max is fairly easy to set up, leaving you with more time to craft.
While some 3D printers require you to build the printer or parts of it before getting started, this one takes away most of the guesswork, leaving the set-up process to be less daunting overall.
Since there is no complicated assembly process needed for the entire machine, it’s simply a matter of attaching its final components and turning on the printer.
The screen will guide you through all the other details and allow you to begin right away! You won’t be left fumbling and huffing around with the X-Max.
Easy to Use
Using the printer is also effortless. The screen controls the majority of its functions, saving you the need to rely on intuition or a complicated guide book.
By following the prompts, you can prepare the machine for printing, send over your spliced design, and let it go. Designs found online are just as compatible as those hand-crafted by you.
The construction of the print bed makes it almost effortless to retrieve your completed projects, and it’s wifi capabilities make it easy to set this up and use in a communal space like an office or classroom since you won’t have to fumble around with wires.
So not only is this 3D printer easy to use, it’s convenient too!
Versatile
Because of the build size and the variety of compatible filaments, there’s no limit to the number of items you can make with the X-Max. Whether you prefer PLA, ABS, or another choice, the printer can take it in stride.
Additionally, because you can make an object of up to 11.8 x 9.8 x 11.8 inches, you have lots of room to play with. That is just the maximum size; you can, of course, make smaller objects.
Although you can only use one filament color at a time, you aren’t limited in other aspects of this Qidi Tech printer.
This is great news for hobbyists looking to grow their skills – you won’t have to spend more money to upgrade to a new printer if you want to adventure out with the type of filament and designs you want to make.
Safe
Several testers mentioned how safe this machine is. Because the printing process is fully enclosed, there’s no worry of anything being disrupted or messed with. As such, your print is fully safeguarded.
Furthermore, if you want to take this into a classroom setting, there’s no danger of students accidentally burning their hands on the hot machine or filament.
The enclosed design also keeps noise levels to a minimum, helping those with at-home hobby rooms. Customers loved how quiet this 3D printer performed, opening up options for where you can place your device.
Customer Service
Customers loved that the Qidi Tech 3D printer was priced appropriately, but they also loved Qidi Tech’s customer service that came along with it.
This company includes a 1-year warranty with the purchase of the X-Max which covers any damages or errors caused to the machine by manufacturing.
Should you find something wrong with your printer, Qidi Tech promises to repair or replace your machine with little hassle from you. And so far, customers have been pleased with the performance of their service department.
Qidi Tech is known for being responsive and helpful when it comes to resolving issues, and are efficient when sending out replacement parts to customers. So know you’ll be in good hands!
The Negatives
Iffy Quality
While most users were pleased with the Qidi Tech printer, not everyone was happy. Some users thought certain parts of the machine were lacking.
Specifically, parts ended up breaking very quickly or arrived broken. One user had to replace the extruder when it first arrived.
This is by no means an inexpensive product, though it’s certainly less costly than other printers on the market. With a price tag of over $1000, it should not be lacking in quality.
Manual Could Be Better
A few testers had difficulties setting it up. The included instruction manual lacked detail and offered a complicated layout.
As such, users struggled to interpret which parts needed what actions to be fully assembled.
If you do end up buying this printer and have issues with the manual, there are YouTube videos and websites that can help you along. You shouldn’t be forced to seek outside help, but it’s worth noting ahead of time.
Overall Verdict
After looking over all the positives and negatives, we do recommend the Qidi Tech X-Max 3D Printer.
With its ease of use and set-up, along with the number of options you have in filament types, there is barely a negative thing to say about this printer.
While a few users struggled with the quality of the parts and the clarity of the manual, most testers were happy with their purchase.
If you are in the market for a new 3D printer, this is certainly one to check out.
