FLBETYY Electric Pottery Wheel

With that said, not all the testers had a good experience with this wheel. Some found the foot pedal to be useless, and others had the wheel arrive broken.

Are these issues an overarching problem or just a one-off? Let’s take an in-depth look at the FLBETYY Pottery Wheel and find out.

FLBETYY Pottery Wheel: The Details

Specs

  • Weight: 33 lbs.
  • Dimension: 20.5 x 15 inches.
  • Wheel Head Size: 9.5 inches in diameter.
  • Centering Capacity: 5 lbs.

Construction

The FLBETYY Pottery Wheel is made primarily of an aluminum alloy. This alloy is sturdy, as it’s made to never corrode or rust.

The basin in which the wheel is placed is composed of ABS plastic and designed to be removable for easy cleaning. A thick, steel base lifts up the wheel and contains the foot pedal, as well as the hand and speed controls.

At 15 inches in height, this is not a wheel you can easily sit at. Instead, you’ll be required to leverage a tall table or to use it on the floor.

Out of the two options, we definitely recommend placing it on a high table and standing while you work on the clay. This could make the foot pedal obsolete, but it will ensure the process is far more comfortable for you.

Accessories

In addition to the FLBETYY Pottery Wheel, this package also features these extra accessories:

  • Boxwood Potter’s Rib.
  • Boxwood modeling tool.
  • Ribbon tool.
  • Sponge.
  • Needle tool.
  • Loop tool.
  • Metal scraper.
  • Wire clay cutter.

Features

Pedal

This FLBETYY Pottery Wheel includes a foot pedal to help you control the speed – completely hands-free.

All that’s needed is to press the accessory as hard or as light as you please, and this will control the wheel.

Want to start off slow? Don’t put too much pressure on the pedal. Ready to speed it up? Push your foot down harder and the wheel will speed up. It’s just like the gas pedal on a car.

As soon as you remove your foot, the wheel will slow down and come to a stop.

Capacity

This wheel also holds quite a bit of clay. Don’t let the size fool you. You can work with up to five pounds – which can turn into a rather large piece.

You can create anything from a large vase to a medium-sized statue. Just because this wheel is compact and portable doesn’t mean you can’t make substantial creations!

Turntable

The turntable on the FLBETYY wheel is made of an aluminum alloy. As such, it’s not only durable but will also never rust.

When you’re managing wet clay, rust is certainly an issue. However, because this is made of an alloy and not straight-up metal, you can rest assured: It will stand the (damp) test of time.

Rotation

This pottery wheel rotates both clockwise or counterclockwise, according to your preferences. You can easily switch the rotation by turning a dial on the side of the base.

Once you begin a project, you’ll find that one direction feels more natural than the other. Stick with whichever you like best – and you’ll be making your next creation in no time.

The Positives

Easy to Use

Whether you’re a beginning or expert potter, the FLBETYY Pottery Wheel is easy to use. Designed to suit all skill levels, you need only plug it in, place your clay on the wheel, and then either use the foot pedal or the hand lever to get started.

It’s that straightforward! If you’re a beginner, you will, of course, need some practice before tackling more challenging projects. However, familiarizing yourself with the wheel is uncomplicated and intuitive.

This means beginners will feel much less daunted by the device, pushing them to improve their crafting skills instead of deterring them.

While awesome for beginners, this is great news for crafters of all skill levels too! Switching to this machine won’t be a pain, but a smooth transition.

Compact and Light

Thirty pounds doesn’t make this the lightest pottery wheel available, but it does make it much more manageable than others on the market. This makes it a more suitable wheel to be taken to classes or wherever you choose to practice your craft.

You won’t have to worry about this pottery wheel taking up too much space in your crafting area either. It doesn’t demand all the space on a countertop, or if you place it on the floor, it’s even easier to be kept out of site.

If you’re used to moving your pottery wheels around, and are looking for a more portable option, the FLBETTY pottery wheel may be the right solution you’re looking for.

Great Capacity

Don’t let the compact nature of this wheel trick you into assuming larger projects are unattainable. This pottery wheel can hold up to five pounds of clay.

That’s a considerable amount for the small design of this wheel. It’ll allow you to make tall vases, large pots, or any number of small clay pieces.

You won’t be limited to a small number of projects even with the compact design of this pottery wheel. You are only limited by your own imagination.

You’ll be able to experiment with a variety of clays and designs thanks to this wheel’s ability to manage weight.

Easy to Clean

There’s no doubt that working with wet clay is messy – but don’t let the clean-up discourage you from using this wheel.

There is a removable ABS basin that easily slides off and can be rinsed in the sink. You don’t need to remove the entire wheel to clean it.

If clay has stubbornly adhered to the turntable, you can easily scrape it off using your hands or a tool. You may not remove all of it, but so long as you remove the excess, your wheel will be ready to use without trouble.

A pottery wheel that’s easy to clean comes especially in handy when in a classroom setting. You won’t have to worry about the cleanup process giving you delays or frustration.

Great for Beginners

Because of the size and the easy control panel, this is an ideal pottery wheel for beginners looking to try their hand at throwing pots.

It’s inexpensive when compared to normal-sized wheels, while still providing the chance to work on your technique and skill from the comfort of your home.

It’s much less intimidating to start on a model like this than to visit a class and learn in front of a group with different skill levels.

In fact, some users have even recommended this as a great pottery wheel for young crafters and children to start on. This way, they’ll be able to get the basics perfected before moving on to a bigger device.

Affordable

When professional pottery wheels cost an astronomical amount – and at-home models may cost well over $300 on average – this FLBETTY Pottery Wheel is a steal at under $250 on Amazon.

Now, more people can afford to try their hand at pottery in their own home without breaking the bank. If you’re on a budget, just starting out, or want to be sure you’re a fan of the craft before delving in, this pottery wheel will be right up your alley.

And while it’s affordable, it’s still easy to clean with great capacity so you won’t be lacking on the number of creations you can conjure up.

The Negatives

Arrived Broken

Unfortunately, quite a few testers had their pottery wheel arrive broken. This is unfortunate. They didn’t even have a chance to try it out, as it refused to turn on.

It’s unclear whether this is an issue with FLBETYY or with how it’s being shipped. In any case, you can contact Amazon for an exchange or refund, should you encounter a dud.

Foot Pedal

There were also quite a few complaints about the usefulness of the foot pedal. Because this pottery wheel is so short, you either need to be sitting on the ground to use it or place it on a table.

However, once you place it on a table, the foot pedal becomes useless. You aren’t exactly going to raise your foot to tap the pedal.

Luckily, there is a hand control, but the wheel’s design makes the foot pedal obsolete, which is unfortunate in such a crucial accessory.

If you’re deadset on having a foot pedal accompany your pottery wheel, the FLBETYY Pottery Wheel may let you down.

Lack of Instructions

Some users were deterred by the lack of instructions included with the pottery wheel. While this wheel is fairly easy to use and set-up there can be some confusion if parts arrive damaged or if the product arrives malfunctioning.

If you’re used to the craft and know what to expect, this shouldn’t be a problem, but can lead to confusion if you’re just starting out in pottery. Since this item is geared towards beginners, clear instructions would be helpful.

Overall Verdict

After looking over all the positives and negatives, we don’t recommend the FLBETYY Pottery Wheel.

Too many testers had the wheel arrive broken, which discourages us from recommending this to anyone. The placement of the foot pedal doesn’t help its case either.

A pottery wheel for the home is a great idea, but the design of this model was executed poorly. If you have your heart set on a pottery wheel, then it’s worth looking into other, more adequately constructed models to suit your needs.

That being said, if you’re on a budget and want to take the risk, Amazon will always back you should the pottery wheel arrive unable to function.

Where to Buy the FLBETYY Pottery Wheel

FLBETYY has an array of products in their line-up in varying niches. Sold through third-party retailers like Amazon, their products are accessible to a variety of crafters.

Since they don’t seem to be sold outside of third-party retailers, the FLBETTY Pottery Wheel will prove hard to find both in-store and online.

While it’s usually best to check crafting and specialty stores, you’re best off sticking with Amazon for now.
