Pressing plants is an excellent way to harvest essential oils or to prepare them for smoking. However, doing such a task by hand is nearly impossible. Heat presses offer a better and more effective solution – but how can you know which model is right for you?

To help your decision, today, we’re evaluating the Dulytek DM1005 Manual Heat Press Machine. Unlike most heat presses, which serve to press decals onto t-shirts, mugs, or other objects, this machine presses organic matter, like plants. In practice, it’s very simple to use, is well-made, and delivers great results for the domestic user.

However, no product is without flaw. You may find the yield size too small or experience glitches in the LCD screen. Before you decide if this is a deal-breaker, let’s take a closer look at the Dulytek DM1005 Manual Heat Press Machine. It may surprise you!

Dulytek DM1005 Manual Heat Press Machine: The Details

In a Nutshell

  • Product Dimensions: 15 x 11 x 10 inches.
  • Weight: 30 lbs.
  • Plate Size: 3 x 5 inches.

Features

Plates

The plates of the Dulytek Manual Heat Press Machine are 3 x 5 inches in size and made of solid aluminum. They can take up to 1000 lbs. of pressure. The solid aluminum construction ensures that the heat is distributed evenly, so you receive the most consistent and efficient results each time. The aluminum is also incredibly sturdy, so the plates shouldn’t scratch or corrode at all.

Pressure

This Dulytek heat press machine has a maximum pressure of 1000 lbs., or 450 kg. To achieve this maximum degree of force, there is a locking mechanism and an adjustable pressure knob. These two parts ensure that, while this is a manual press, you don’t have to apply that pressure continuously.

Simply press down the lever until it clicks, and then the machine takes over. This gives you a break and ensures you receive the best final product. You don’t have to maintain the pressure yourself.

Temperature

This heat press also has a temperature setting you can control from the LCD touchscreen, located on the machine’s side. The plates can reach up to 750 degrees Fahrenheit, or 399 degrees Celsius.

With the help of the touchscreen, you can also save the parameters you choose for later. As such, when you resume pressing at a later date (or hour), it will pick up the original temperature and continue fluidly – without the need to repeatedly key in the settings. This is especially nice when you’re doing multiple presses back to back.

Timer

There is also a timer on this Dulytek heat press. It ranges from 0 to 999 seconds (which is around 16 minutes). You can control it through the LCD touchscreen, just like the temperature. Similarly, you can save the amount of time for each session, so you don’t need manually adjust it with every new project.

Construction

This machine is well-constructed, with the heat plates made of solid aluminum and the exterior made of high-quality, heavy-duty plastic. Dulytek made this press to last. They also added rubber stoppers to the bottom of the machine, ensuring it stays firmly secured wherever it’s located. Since it’s pressing down with 1000 lbs. of power, that’s important. You can be sure it’ll remain fixed in place.

Accessories

Along with the heat press, you also receive:

  • 7 x 4.7-inch, food grade, 100% silicone mat.
  • Two stainless steel tools.
  • One storage jar for the oil or rosin you produce.
  • 10 sheets of parchment paper to press onto.
  • Four magnets.

The Positives

Easy to Set Up

Whether you’re new to the craft or well-versed in rosin presses, setting up the Dulytek Manual Heat Press Machine is extremely simple. This specific heat press does arrive fully assembled, so you don’t have to worry about a direction manual and lots of tiny parts. Once the box arrives, it’s largely a “plug and play” type of device.

When the Dulytek arrives, all you have to do is take it out of the box and take off the packaging.

First, you should plug it in and allow the LCD touchscreen display to boot up. This should happen automatically.

After that, you get to choose your parameters for your first project. You will set the temperature, how much pressure should be applied to your materials, and the length of the pressing session (anywhere from 0 to 999 seconds).

If you don’t know where to start with the temperature,  pressure, or time, there is a lot of helpful pressing advice available online! Every heat press user started somewhere, and some have documented their processes to help beginners.

Once you have the temperature, pressure, and press time keyed into the machine, you simply place your materials onto a sheet of parchment paper and then onto the aluminum plate. Take the top lever and press down until it locks in place. The pressure will be maintained once the lever is secured.

Because the Dulytek DM1005 Heat Press has a locking system, you don’t have to maintain manual pressure on the press while it’s working. The locking mechanism ensures even, consistent pressure and heat, which will give you a far better final result than struggling to maintain even pressure yourself.

You will know the press is done when the machine beeps, indicating the time is up. From there, lift up the top plate using the lever, turn off the machine, and remove what you’ve pressed. You should see the rosin on the parchment paper.

Be very careful when adding or removing materials – the aluminum plates get extremely hot and can cause burns.

If you plan on doing another press, you can turn the machine back on. If you’re done, wait for the plates to cool down completely before storing it away.

Sturdy

If you’re seeking a long-term investment, then the Dulytek heat press is a great choice. The plates are made of thick, solid aluminum and the outer base is constructed of heavy-duty plastic, ensuring a hardy lifespan. If you bump it against a wall, hit it by accident, or otherwise knock it over, this durable construction ensures it won’t scratch or break.

For those who are interested in where their products are manufactured and built, the Dulytek is made in the United States.

Lightweight

Despite the sturdy build, this heat press machine is fairly lightweight. While 30 lbs. is a substantial load, it’s nothing compared to other presses on the market. Some can be over 50 lbs. At this weight, you can move it from room to room by yourself or with the help of a friend. As a plus, the light build doesn’t affect its pressing power – almost 34 times its own weight!

Good for Home Use

This Dulytek press is ideal for home use or for a small business. While the size of the heat plates isn’t great enough to suit a large business, it’s perfectly sufficient to create rosin for a small customer base or personal use. Its lightweight build, temperature and timer memory, and sturdy design also ensure a small business can produce just enough – but not too much.

Warranty

Dulytek offers a limited warranty on the DM1005 Heat Press. They cover the major components for six months, and the other parts for 3 years. If the machine is modified in any way, the warranty is voided, of course, and it doesn’t cover normal wear and tear. They also do not cover damage due to improper use or storage, or if the machine is dropped or otherwise abused.

The company also informs their customers that they might simply send replacement parts, rather than replacing the entire machine. They say on their website that they’ll send directions on how to replace the pieces too, along with the new parts. If that doesn’t work, they also say they can take back the press and repair it themselves, then return it to you.

The Negatives

Small Plates

With this press,  if you’re looking for a large production of rosin, you’ll be disappointed. The plates simply aren’t designed for this. At 3 x 5 inches in total, the final output is rather small. It’s not completely automatic and it’s not hydraulic, so the power is limited and the plate size keeps the output fairly small.

If you are in the market for a heat press to suit large businesses, this is not for you. However, if you’re aware of the size and what it can do, the Dulytek machine will fulfill your needs well.

Manufacturing Defects

Sadly, the LCD display has a few kinks that need working out. The display may blink or turn off entirely, which prevents you from seeing the temperature or time on the press. This appears to be a manufacturing defect, so you may never encounter it. If you do, however, then you can always redeem your warranty. Amazon provides exchanges for new models, free of charge, so you can get back to pressing happily.

Dulytek also has the warranty we mentioned earlier, so if the touchscreen becomes problematic, you can always contact the company.

There have also been a few instances where the plates aren’t lined up quite right when the machine is brand-new, which also seems to be a manufacturing defect or a quality control issue. In some cases, the press still works fine, but some presses arrive with severely misaligned plates that require replacement or repair before the press can be used.

It doesn’t seem to be a common problem, but it’s worth mentioning. If you purchase a press and notice that the plates are misaligned, definitely reach out to the company before enduring a frustrating attempt to press with crooked plates!

Overall Verdict

After going over all the positives and negatives, we do recommend the Dulytek DM1005 Manual Heat Press Machine. It’s easy to use, sturdy, and creates ample rosin for both home and small business use.

Despite its small build, it applies considerable power to deliver quality results. The lever ensures that, even if manual effort is required, it’s very limited. So long as you don’t intend it for larger businesses, and you factor the plate size into account, you should find this heat press serving you well.
