Nursery owls in progress
July 19, 2009
I spent last night stitching wings, eyes and belly buttons on the owl family for the twins nursery. The larger white owls are actually socks inside out to give them a slight downy appearance. It was a bit of an experiment – I’ve always used socks the right way out but it worked a treat. The textured effect just makes you want to stroke them. Each of the owl bodies is nowcomplete except for one. I’m basing the whole colour scheme on the little stripey owls so browns, aqua and grey colours are picked out in the fabrics and socks. The last owl I’d like to be in that dusty olive colour but finding an exact match is quite tricky. The search continues!

Those owls look so cute. I like the way you turned the sock inside out too to make them a bit fluffier! The dark one on the right looks so good. Happy stitching!!
