Handmade Help for Victoria

February 15, 2009

I haven’t blogged yet about the firestorms, as they’re now being called, in Victoria last week. To be honest words have failed me. I just cannot imagine the devastation of losing the loved ones and community you have spent a lifetime with. One image that will stay with me forever was that of a row of  several cars, skewed along a road, completely burnt out … everything around them reduced to ash. Families, friends, neighbours who just didn’t make it out.

All of my in-laws are in Victoria but, thankfully, nowhere near the fires.

So now there are 5,000 people homeless and with nothing but the clothes on their back. This week I’m stitching softies for Victoria, hoping I can bring even a little smile back to someone’s face and wipe the tears away from mine.
